What does being a Doula mean to me?

There are moments in life that shape who we are, quietly guiding us toward our purpose.

For me, birth has always felt like sacred ground; a place where strength, love, and vulnerability meet. Becoming a doula wasn’t just a career decision; it was a calling that grew out of both experiencing and witnessing how deeply women and families deserve to be supported during one of life’s most transformative times.

Before I trained as a doula, I often found myself drawn to conversations about birth - not just the practical side, but the emotional and spiritual layers too. I noticed how many people spoke about their births with mixed feelings: joy and love, but also fear, loneliness, or disappointment. It made me wonder - what if more people felt truly held during that journey?

That question never left me. It led me to doula training, where I discovered that being a doula isn’t about “doing” ̶ it’s about being: being present, being calm, being a steady hand through the waves of labour and beyond.

“Being a doula isn’t about doing - it’s about being.”

Wisdom Births was born from a desire to nurture calm, confident, and connected births in my community here in Kent, East Sussex and South East London and further afield through remote support. Through my deeply imbedded Continuum training, I am able to help families truly feel seen, safe, and empowered - no matter how or where they choose to birth.

Closing Reflection…

Birth is powerful. It’s raw, beautiful, unpredictable and it deserves reverence. My purpose is to remind every woman that they already hold everything they need within them. Sometimes, they just need someone to walk beside them and whisper, you can do this.
